Yoshida no Ichiirisai Danjiri Kodomo Kabuki 吉田の市入祭 壇尻子供歌舞伎 Hiroshima (May)
The floats accompanying the mikoshi (portable shrine) in the Ichiirisai ritual have a history of around 350 years. The two floats, named Chitoseyama and Yagumoyama, are paraded around the town, while three children give a stirring performance of kabuki on the floats. Children’s kabuki performed on floats is a rare sight in Japan. They present well-known excerpts from famous kabuki plays, such as Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura, ten times in one day.
