Mushono no Dainenbutsu

Mushono no Dainenbutsu Yamanashi (Aug.)

Mushono-no-Dainenbutsu, which is passed down in Uenohara City, Yamanashi Prefecture, began as a memorial service to Prince Morinaga, who met a sad fate, and Princess Hinazuru. On the 16th day of the 1st month of the old calendar, and the 16th day of the 8th month of the new calendar, a stage called “Dojo” is built at the regional meeting place. Dancing with one sword and two swords is performed in time to the gongs and drums. At the end, the prayer Bupparai, for the healing of illness is held. It is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.

From JR Uenohara Station on the Chuo Line take the Fujikyu Yamanashi Bus in the Mushono direction for approx. 50min., then get off at Mushono bus stop. Approx. 2 min. walk.

By Car

Approx. 40 min. down Prefectural Route 35 from the Uenohara interchange of the Chuo Expressway.
