Matsuyama Aki Matsuri / Imazu Omikoshi

Matsuyama Aki Matsuri / Imazu Omikoshi Ehime (Oct.)

Imazu Omikoshi is a ritual held in Nishihabu, in the south-west area of Matsuyama City. At the entrance to the shrine grounds, an experienced group called "Ie mochi" try to stop the mikoshi (portable shrine) from entering the shrine, while a group of youths try to let the mikoshi enter. This results in an earnest and heated battle. The mikoshi, which is handled powerfully, is dropped on the ground many times, and creates a lively atmosphere at Matsuyama’s autumn matsuri.
