Kingosama Odori

Kingosama Odori Kagoshima (Sept.)

Kingosama-odori is the grand autumn matsuri of Oishi Shrine, which is dedicated to Shimazu Toshihisa, who was popularly known as “Kingo sama”. He was the first generation of the Kedoin Shimazu clan which ruled this area during the Oda/Toyotomi era (late 16th century). People pray for bumper crops and good health. The five settlements in the Nakatsugawa area gather, and each settlement offers a traditional dance.
