Kawagoe Matsuri

Kawagoe Matsuri Saitama (Oct.)

Kawagoe Matsuri developed under the strong influence of the Tenka Matsuri of Edo. The shape of the floats in the matsuri also changed to reflect the style of those in the Tenka Matsuri. The splendid and magnificent floats are pulled around the town, with a focus on the area with streets lined with traditional warehouses, which are the symbol of Kawagoe, known as “Little Edo”. The many floats cross and pass each other on a grand scale, which overwhelms the crowds. It is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
