Hakata Dontaku Minato Matsuri 博多どんたく港まつり Fukuoka (May)
Hakata Dontaku originates in Hakata Matsu Bayashi, which has a history of 840 years. It is led by three gods – Fukujin, Ebisu and Daikoku, and children taking part in the procession. The children wear crowns, and the young girls dressed in dancing costumes dance elegantly. In 1962, the matsuri was expanded and developed as Hakata Dontaku Minato Matsuri, for the citizens of Fukuoka City. Now, over two days, it boasts more than two million visitors. It finishes with a dance by all participants.
