Ugoku Tanabata Matsuri うごく七夕まつり Iwate (Aug.)
Ugoku Tanabata Matsuri is held on the day of Tanabata according to the old calendar. It has long been held in this region as a regular summer ritual. Magnificent floats from each area are paraded around the town to a spirited musical accompaniment. After sunset, the decorations change and the Tanabata floats are lit up, creating an illusory scene as they try to outdo each other in brilliance. The passion of the region, which overcame the great earthquake, lights up the changing townscape brightly.
