Sanno Matsuri 山王祭 Gifu (Apr.)
Takayama Matsuri no Yatai Gyoji is a registered UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is the generic name of two events - the Sanno Matsuri, which is held in spring, and the Hachiman Matsuri, which is held in the fall. It is also a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. It is said the Yatai floats began in the middle of the 18th century. A total of 12 extravagant floats are towed around, and a marionette performance and a night event are also held. It is counted as one of the three most beautiful festivals in Japan.
