Oganomachi Iida no Teppo Matsuri

Oganomachi Iida no Teppo Matsuri Saitama (Dec.)

Oganomachi Iida no Teppo Matsuri is an annual matsuri held at Hachiman Shrine in December on the second Sunday and the preceding day. It is held to pray for bumper crop harvests and large hunting hauls. On the signal of gunfire from the shrine approach, two sacred horses gallop up the stone steps to the shrine in the “Otachi” ritual. Furthermore, a historical Daimyo procession is held and floats and stalls are pulled around the town. There is a kabuki performance by local volunteers, and the matsuri events of Chichibuji are brought to a close in a soul-stirring and lively manner.
