Kentosai Rokugatsudo Shinaga Jinja no Karakuri Hanabi

Kentosai Rokugatsudo Shinaga Jinja no Karakuri Hanabi Miyazaki (July)

Rokugatsudo is a summer matsuri held in the area of the Satsuma domain (the old name for the area around Kagoshima Prefecture). People pray for bumper crop harvests and good health. In the Shinaga Jinja Reitaisai, a marionette fireworks display called "Tsunabi" (rope fireworks) is held. The fireworks, made out of bamboo pipes, run along hemp rope stretched like a spider's web, and travel one after the other through the darkness. It is said that those who are showered with sparks will be healthy, and the ritual attracts many worshippers and onlookers every year.
