Akiuotaki Fudoson Reitaisai / Akiu no Taue Odori

Akiuotaki Fudoson Reitaisai / Akiu no Taue Odori Miyagi (Apr.)

Akiu no Taue Odori is a registered UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is the generic term for the rice planting dances which are held in the three regions of Baba, Nagafukuro, and Yumoto in Akiu-machi, Taihaku-ku, Sendai City. The Taue Odori is held as a preliminary celebration to pray for an abundant harvest for the year. Young female rice planters dressed in elaborate costumes imitate rice planting in the dance. It can be said to be a representative folk performance art of Miyagi, and each village has its own Taue Odori.
