Toko Yasaka Jinja Reitaisai 東湖八坂神社例大祭 Akita (July)
Toko Yasaka Jinja Reitaisai is a matsuri which celebrates the legend of the slaying of Yamata no Orochi and the worshipping of the water god by fishermen from around Hachirogata. Rituals are held throughout the year, with the climax occurring annually on July 7th. Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who appears in Japanese mythology, rides a divine ox in the Ushinori ritual, and Kumomai is performed on a boat by Yamata no Orochi. The Toko Yasaka Shrine tonin ritual is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
