Tazukurisai Hifuri Shinji

Tazukurisai Hifuri Shinji Kumamoto (Mar.)

Tazukurisai Hifuri Shinji is a ceremony held as part of the Aso Shrine ritual Aso no Nokosaiji (Aso Agricultural Ritual), to celebrate the marriage of the deity of agriculture, Kunitatsu no Kami, on the day of the monkey in March. In the evening, parishioners set bundles of reeds alight, and wave them around in celebration of the marriage ceremony of the deities. The circles of flames swirling around the grounds of the shrine create a mystical atmosphere. The end of the festival marks the arrival of spring in Aso. It is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
