Oe Hachimangu no Ofune Shinji 大江八幡宮の御船神事 Shizuoka (Sept.)
Oe Hachimangu no Ofune Shinji is a special Shinto ritual held every fall to pray for safety at sea and prosperity in business. Youths called funawaka carry models of sailing vessels called higakikaisen and tarukaisen which are two meters in length. The youths parade with vigor around the town in time with a sea song. They take it in turns to lift the bow and the stern, and energetically express the scene of ships sailing on the rough sea.
