Nou Hakusan Jinja Shunki Taisai

Nou Hakusan Jinja Shunki Taisai Niigata (Apr.)

Nou Hakusan Jinja Shunki Taisai is held annually on April 24th at Nou Hakusan Shrine. It is said that officials in the Muromachi period went to Shitenno-ji Temple in Osaka to learn the bugaku music and dance which is performed. As time passed, the dance was shaped and cultivated by the features of Nou, which differ from the center. Eleven dances are performed on a specially constructed stage until sundown, and the highlight is Ryo-o no Mai, when the dancers are bathed in the colors of the setting sun. It is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
