Ichiki Koshiki Jugoya Hashira Matsu "Hi Matsuri" 市木古式十五夜柱松 「火祭」 Miyazaki (Sept.)
Ichiki Koshiki Jugoya Hashira Matsu "Hi Matsuri" is a traditional ritual with a history of over 300 years. It is held to pray for bumper crop harvests and good health. The matsuri was revived over twenty years ago to invigorate the Ichiki area of the city, and it is now an important event in which the villagers gather and deepen bonds. On the day of the ritual, young children perform "Kodomo hashira matsu" and "Matsu no shita sasa odori" dance. A basket is placed on the top of a pole around 20 meters in height, and participants throw torches at it, creating parabolas of light in the night sky.
