Shiromi Jinja Taisai 銀鏡神社大祭 Miyazaki (Dec.)
Shiromi Jinja Taisai is held every December in the Shiromi area of Miyazaki Prefecture. Shiromi Kagura, a sacred dance, is performed as an offering. The Shiromi areas is deep in the mountains, and long ago, life was sustained through slash-and-burn agriculture and hunting. As such, the sacred Shiromi Kagura, passed down through the years, is held to give thanks to the gods and to pray to the mountains. Solemn, but at times humorous, it is performed through the night to welcome the gods.
