Obasama no Ennen

Obasama no Ennen Miyagi (Apr.)

Obasama no Ennen is a matsuri held before the spring farming period begins, to pray for abundant crops. Ennen is one of the generic names for an energetic display of song and dance performed by monks and children at temples from the Heian period to the Muromachi period. Seven programs are performed in the matsuri. As it is a traditional regional performance art passed down from the Heian period and performed annually, it has been nationally designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
