Nanakuri Jinja Hadaka Matsuri

Nanakuri Jinja Hadaka Matsuri Nagano (Oct.)

Nanakuri Jinja Hadaka Matsuri is the autumn matsuri of Nanakuri Shrine in Iida City. It is said to have started in the Nanbokucho period. It has continued for around 700 years as a harvest festival in which people pray and give thanks for bumper crops and good health. Youths selected from each of the seven settlements in the Yamamoto district tie shimenawa ropes around their waists, and swing barrels wrapped with shimenawa ropes above their heads. They dance under a shower of sparks, which fall like rain.
