Mikawa Okaeri Matsuri

Mikawa Okaeri Matsuri Ishikawa (May)

Mikawa Okaeri Matsuri is the spring matsuri of Fujitsuka Shrine. The area flourished as a cargo ship port of call, and the matsuri began in the middle of the Edo period. Youths playing bugles in a spirited manner lead a parade of splendid mikoshi (shrine floats)and Daiguruma (floats) through the town. The route back to the shrine is known as Okaeri-suji. The route changes every ten years, passing through a different area each time, and the families there put on a display of generous hospitality.
