Maisaka Odaiko Matsuri

Maisaka Odaiko Matsuri Shizuoka (Oct.)

Maisaka Odaiko Matsuri is the annual matsuri of Kisa Shrine. It is near Lake Hamana, which is famous for clam digging. It has eight floats with giant taiko drums, which are over 1.8 meters in diameter. Huge drumsticks, around a meter in length are used. For consecutive days, the men beat the drums with all their might, until the cloth wrapped around their fists is stained with blood. The highlight of the matsuri is in the main event, when the drums are boldly beaten as they travel to and fro through three torii gates.
