Hinoki no Shishimai

Hinoki no Shishimai Tokushima (Nov.)

Hinoki no Shishimai is also called Meotojishi. Two lions, enticed by the Choko performance of kindergarten-age children, perform five dances to the rhythm of the taiko drum and wooden clappers. People pray for bumper crop harvests and the wellbeing of their families in this event, which has a history of over 400 years. Every October, the dance is performed for the three gods of the local area, and then it is performed at Oasahiko Shrine on November 1st.
