Tsuchizaki Minato Hikiyama Matsuri

Tsuchizaki Minato Hikiyama Matsuri Akita (July)

In the Tsuchizaki Minato Hikiyama Matsuri, around 20 hikiyama (floats) from the old towns of the Tsuchizaki area are grandly paraded through the streets, accompanied by rhythmic shouts from the participants and folk music called Minato bayashi. On the 20th, the floats, adorned with large samurai dolls, make their way to Tsuchizaki Shinmeisha Shrine. The matsuri reaches its climax on the 21st, when the floats return to their towns in the parade known as modoriyama. The matsuri is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
