Odakoage Matsuri

Odakoage Matsuri Saitama (May)

In the Odakoage Matsuri, large washi paper and bamboo kites made over a period of three months are flown. During this annual matsuri, which has a history of over 170 years, prayers are offered for the health and strong growth of children celebrating their first Children’s Day on May 5th. The two kites are 15 meters long, 11 meters wide, and weigh 800 kilograms. They are raised to the sky by the Showa Odako Hozonkai preservation society of Kasukabe City.
