Itoman Hare

Itoman Hare Okinawa (June)

Itoman Hare is a ceremony in which the fishermen of Itoman give thanks for the blessings of the sea, and pray for large fishing hauls and safety in voyages. It attracts around 30,000 visitors from Okinawa and other prefectures. Dragon boat races called Ugan (Prayer) Bare and Seinen (Youth) Bare are held, and the event ends with Agaisubu, an exciting finale in which participants compete with pride for their hometowns.
