Yamanaka Suwa Jinja Anzan Matsuri

Yamanaka Suwa Jinja Anzan Matsuri Yamanashi (Sept.)

Yamanaka Suwa Jinja Anzan Matsuri is a regular festival, held annually over three days, from September 4th - 6th. The deity of the shrine is Toyotama-hime-no-mikoto, the goddess of safe childbirth. In the event held at night, it is said that the female parishioners and worshippers who carry the mikoshi (shrine float) will be promised children and safe childbirth. The main event is held on the 5th, and on the same night, the mikoshi is paraded around the shrine grounds to the sacred chant of “Mosoro, mosoro”. This is the highlight and the climax of the matsuri.
