Every year, a new mikoshi (shrine float) weighing around 400 kg is made from red pine (70-100 years old) cut from a local mountain. The brand-new mikoshi is thrown down on the ground, and rolled horizontally and vertically, until it is completely broken. The pride of Kisofukushima, it is known as an eccentric matsuri.
