Nishioyama Hachiman Jinja Reisai

Nishioyama Hachiman Jinja Reisai Hiroshima (Sept.)

Nishioyama Hachiman Jinja Reisai is a performance of sacred kagura to mark the beginning of Akitakata’s kagura season. Akitakata City, in Hiroshima Prefecture, has a kagura dome, which is unusual in Japan. It has a capacity of 3,000, and hosts weekend performances of the 22 kagura troupes in the city. On the day of the matsuri, four kagura troupes perform Nishioyama Hachiman Kagura together. The event was designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Hiroshima Prefecture in 1979.
