Nekko Bangaku 根子番楽 Akita (Aug.)
Nekko Bangaku is a traditional dance of the Nekko region of Kitaakita City, an area surrounded by mountains and which is known as a matagi (traditional hunters) village. Its two main characteristics are its excellent literary lyrics, and the fact that it predates Kowakamai dance, which is a predecessor of Noh. It is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
