Kainan Jinja Natsu no Reitaisai

Kainan Jinja Natsu no Reitaisai Kanagawa (July)

Kainan Jinja Natsu no Reitaisai is known for its Oneri Shishi (guiding lions). It is a traditional event, and the prefecture’s greatest matsuri. It is held in the Misaki area of Miura City, on the Saturday and Sunday before Marine Day. Two lions, one male and one female, vigorously lead the mikoshi (shrine float) around the port town in time with the rhythmic traditional workman’s chant of Misaki, and dispel the town of evil and misfortune. It is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Miura City.
