Fujinomiya Matsuri

Fujinomiya Matsuri Shizuoka (Nov.)

In the Fujinomiya Matsuri, dashi and yatai (floats) from 20 districts are pulled around to the accompaniment of lively music. The matsuri is held to give thanks for the harvest and a year without misfortune. Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha is the head shrine of around 1,300 Sengen shrines throughout the country, and is the center of Mt. Fuji worship. The highlight of the matsuri is the rough jostling of the yatai and dashi. The unique Fujinomiya Bayashi music is designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of the prefecture.
