Awa Odori

Awa Odori Tokushima (Aug.)

Awa Odori is one of the main Bon odori dances of Japan. From August 12th to 15th, over 1.2 million people attend the dance in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture. The Awa Odori duple time rhythm is called “zomeki”, which means “stir up”, or “be noisy”. The dance groups are made up of several tens of people, and are called “ren”. Each group has its own traditions and characteristics. Spectators can join the group called Niwaka ren and enjoy dancing too.
