Chichibu Matsuri 秩父夜祭 Saitama (Dec.)
Chichibu Yomatsuri began as the additional event of the Chichibu Jinja Reitaisai to entertain people. It has a history of over 300 years and is counted as one of Japan’s three great float matsuri. In time with the dynamic musical accompaniment, two splendid Kasaboko floats, with hanging parasol decorations, and four traditional Yatai floats, are pulled around the town. The climax is on the night of the 3rd. With fireworks shooting into the winter night sky as a backdrop, the floats are pulled up Dangozaka slope creating a powerful scene. It is a nationally designated Important Folk Cultural Property.
