Yamaga Toro Matsuri

Yamaga Toro Matsuri Kumamoto (Aug.)

The Yamaga Toro Matsuri begins with the decoration of the dedicatory Toro lanterns on August 15th. Gold lanterns adorn the heads of the women who dance gently and elegantly. The lanterns sway to the melody of the “yoheho” tune in the Sennin Toro-odori dance, or 1,000 people lantern dance, creating an illusory and beautiful sight. The offering of the Agari Toro lanterns at Omiya Shrine brings the matsuri to a close.
